Results after ASI retrofitted an existing dryer with our patented Smooth Float air foil

“We run only PP films with a range of thicknesses that approach 200 micron on the high end and wet adhesive coating weights that can exceed 100 gsm (61#/ream). The weight of our products is therefore probably a little bit harder to process than paper in regards of film stability and tensile strength.

“We were constantly scraping with our product on the nozzles. Build-up of the release coat on the nozzles as well as failures in the release coating was the consequence. The release got very hard and rigid on the nozzles and started even damaging the web after a while. Therefore we had to schedule a maintenance shift at least every two weeks. We still see some build-up on the nozzles at the edges of the web but only there. The last 6 months we cleaned only once per month for half a shift and haven't seen any quality issues on our products. Cleaning of the bottom nozzles is very easy and quick. The top nozzles (adhesive side) is more elaborate (these only get dirty if the web breaks) but through the quick locking system it is much easier to remove these nozzles and to clean than in the past.

“With the new nozzles we could increase the machine speed depending on the product at least 10% and lower the tensions in the dryer as well about 50%. Our system includes an inert dryer and condensation system and an atmospheric dryer after that with a RTO. Due to the faster drying could we recover about 10% more solvents with our recovery system.”
